Playing Multiplayer Video Games Online

The internet has bought change to the way people play video games. Now anybody with a good internet connection and the right game can play with many people. But why do people love to play online?

I believe some people love to work together with other friendly players. For example, a group of people In World of Warcraft work to defeat huge bosses. The model works, or the game would not be as popular as it is. There are other cooperative games that can be played online,

Playing games online can also be very competitive. An example is first person shooters or FPS games. In games like Call of Duty and Halo and other FPS players fight it out against each other. The best person or team wins. There are people out there who have amazing skill with the games. There even is a major league gaming site where people compete in huge competitions. Such a thing was not possible at the dawn of video games.

You never know how much skill each player you play with or against brings to the game. It is this random quality that makes online game play unique and different. Playing online allows friends to form groups and come together.

Now there as some negative aspects to online gaming. Sadly some people say mean and nasty things and taunt other players. Some people can be jerks. It cannot be avoided sometimes. Thankfully some games allow you to mute other players and on Xbox Live you can avoid players you select.

Playing online can be very fun, as long as you take the positives over the negative. If you have not tried playing video games online with other people, why not try it? You might enjoy yourself.

Lastly remember to control the amount of time you spend playing games. While online games can be very fun they can potently be addictive.

Very true that online games bring a whole new aspect to the gaming environment. I think you missed something very important, though: the social comraderie of the people who play together.

I'm thinking specifically of MMOs, since that's what I've had the most exposure to. In a lot of cases, people log in just to see what their in game friends are up to. It's really like a social network where you also play a game. People get together on a regular basis to achieve goals, but they also do it to help each other out.

We spend hours helping a friend camp a mob just to get him get that rare drop. We coordinate our jobs or crafts to compliment our alliance/linkshell/group so we can work together more effectively. We watch out for items our friends need and save them/buy them specifically for those friends.

I like your ideas for your hubs. Sometimes organization is the hardest part of writing them, but I'd like to see you expand more on each of your topics within the hub. I think you have lots of gaming experiences you can share with us and show people what a wonderful hobby it can be. To often, "gaming" is viewed as childish and immature when it's actually a major step in our social evolution.

I'm looking forward to watching you grow as a writer as you publish more hubs. As a fellow gamer and a writer/editor to boot, PLEASE let me know if there's anything I can help with (except write them for you, of course! ~_^).

Rated up for potential!

Pretty damn good read, Eric! While I'm on WoW for social fun and sometimes the odd guild run in Firelands, I'm still found on Travian with a burning hatred for everyone who attacks my villages.

It's true that online gaming has changed the way we think of games, but it has become very stale over the years due to everyone else using the same templates over and over again.

So thanks for the read - it's gotten voted up! ^_^

Wow, Travian. I'd forgotten about that one. LOL Left them years ago in favor of Evony, and left Evony over a year ago to get a life! Amazing how attached and involved you can get in those games... It's a pretend village with pretend warriors fighting in pretend battles, but we get so ticked off when they get killed!!! (^_^)
